Test shoot behind the scenes

Test shoot behind the scenes

Today, we went into the TV studio to film our test shoot. This is basically a rehearsal for our music video, so we can see how we wont to position everyone and what angles we want to do.

We set up some lights and filmed on Gabi's phone, against a black curtain. Then we started by filming the band for the full 2:20 seconds with a wide shot.

While this was happening, Gabi and I also took lots of photos, so we could make another storyboard, this time with pictures from the rehearsal

We also did a closeup of Harry singing through the whole song, and mid-shots of the back up singers/guitarists.

After this, we went into Mike's classroom to use his projector. I played the liquid light show video on youtube and the musicians and dancers were filmed in front of it.

How it went:

Although we had a bit of difficulty finding a time where everyone was free, i think the shoot went really well. It was very cool to see it start to come together, and see how everyone would look together and with their instruments.

Music video Test Shoot

Music video Test Shoot

This is our finished test shoot video. This will help us a lot when we film our real video, as we can see what else we need to add, what to take away, and if it looks how we want.

Editing the test shoot

 Editing the test shoot

It was my job to edit the test shoot, so i gathered all the videos together and used the app 'inshot' on my
phone to edit it.

I followed the storyboard to make sure i was matching the shots, and went from start to finish, adjusting the clips and making sure everything lined up and was in time to the music. I couldn't make all the lip syncing line up, as we didn't have a closeup of harry singing the whole song, for example, so i just repeated clips. This is okay though, as it is more important that the shot composition is right.

I also wanted to add a trippy effect to the dancers, so i used the app 'Crystaliq' to achieve this.

I really love the way this effect turned out, and it just makes it look even more 60s, which of course is exactly what we're going for.

Finally, i wanted to add a 60s/vintage looking filter onto the whole video, to tie it all together. I used an app called '8mm', and it gave a really groovy warm tone to the video, and a few film looking spots.

Organising Costumes

 Organising Costumes

The first thing we did after planning what we wanted for costumes, was starting to search for the items, and figure out where we're going to get them from.

Chloe sent an email to Catherine, who works at the school's theatre department, asking if we could borrow some items.

This is the mood board I made, that she attached, to show our inspiration and general ideas.

I then looked online to find Gogo dresses for the dancers, and i looked on multiple websites to find one that matched the a dress i had bought previously.
I went on amazon, ebay and Smiffys to find the right one.

I then messaged the group asking if they liked the outfit and would be willing to split the price.

However after ordering the outift...

I found a cheaper one on Amazon for about half the price.

So i cancelled my last order, and ordered this instead.

Costumes: What we need

Costumes: What we need

We want to try and make our 60s costumes as authentic as possible, and the best way to do this is to piece together the outfits ourselves, rather than buying them as a set online, so we can avoid it looking cheap/like a costume/stereotypical.

However, we also need to think about how long we have to get these outfits and our budget, so if we see a costume that we can style to look authentic, we have that as an option too.

For the band, each member will have...

-A fitted jacket
-a coloured shirt
-fitted trousers
-smart dress shoes

Blazer: Single or double breasted, collard, buttons, block coloured or stripes suede/velvet/cotton/corduroy

Shirt: either a linen button up shirt (plain or paisley print), mock neck wool shirts, or block coloured turtle necks.

Trousers: straight legged trousers, chinos, normal suit trousers, block colours/black/stripes

Shoes: smart, dress shoes, brown/black, with laces, leather/suede

For the dancers, each girl will have...

-a mini dress, probably shift dress with high neckline
-nude tights
-go go boots or low block heels

Black and white, panelled mini dress

Nude/skin coloured tights

White patent, knee high, block heel, round-toed go-go boots
