Audience Profiling and Target audience

Audience Profiling and Target audience

What is a target audience?

A target audience is a specific group of people that a product is aimed at.

It is very important because having an idea of who your product is for, helps create a direction for marketing.

Audience profiling through 'Demographic' and 'Psychographic' segmentation.

Demographic segmentation is very good for large/mass advertising and marketing, for example, Nationality, social, age, class, gender, race, sexuality. This is an example of qualitative reach.

The Jicnar scale (which stands for joint industrial committee for newspaper advertising research surveys) is a way for media product creators to profile their audience into categories based on social class, occupation and perceived economic status.

Psychographic segmentation (also known as lifestyle profiling) is very extreme and accurate, and is more to do with targeting and marketing. It focuses on ideology, values, beliefs and ideas, and is an example of quantitate reach.

Vals (he Values Attitudes and lifestyle) is a method used for psychographic segmentation. It creates a psychological profile of the consumer, and again is used to appeal a product to their target audience.

However, it is different for teenagers, as they tend to fit into different categories. :

How the internet and social medias effect tracking target audiences:

-The internet and social media is a really easy and efficient way for companies to track their target audience. By looking at specific and relevant hashtags on apps such as instagram and twitter, you can see what age and gender the people are that are talking about your media product.

-Also by looking at fan pages, fan videos on youtube, or online chat forums, you can see which gender/age group is dominant in the demographic. You can also see who is buying the product, and who is sharing it and talking about it the most.
-'Cookies' also help advertisers show what they are advertising to people who have similar interests/would be interested in their product.

-Four our campaign we would create surveys to ask a large range of people specific questions such as how old they are, where they live, their gender and favourite genre of music.

Who is our target audience?

-After doing my genre research, and looking at the target audience for bands similar to ours, I believe our target audience is teenage girls and boys aged 15-17

To attract our target audience, we have...

-Chosen to cast our musicians to be all good-looking
-Have a lot of energy and charisma
-Them also being able to play their own instruments, adding to their appeal and attractiveness. This reminds the audience that they are an organic band, and are not artificial.
-Our band will also wear very eccentric and exciting outfits that will make them stand out, adding to their star image
-the song is up-beat and part of a classic and popular genre, which is also fun to dance to/sing along to or play along to
-classic rock is also known for its rebellion, again adding to their star image

Mood Boards to show our audience's interests:

The famous Beatlemaniacs (Beatle fan girls) of the early 60s

Many teen magazines included features on bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
