The finished digipak

 The finished digipak

After talking to my group and listening to the last bits of feedback, i altered my digipak and added finishing touches. This is the final result, i'm so happy with how it looks, it looks very authentic and could definitely be an album cover from the mid 60s.

Draft campaign 2

Draft campaign 2

Today in the lesson, our group got together one final time to give feedback on all of our products. This was our last notes on each others work, which means these are the very final details we would all be sharing.

The digipak (me)

Here is an audio recording of the feedback my group gave me today:

The digipak i presented:

What they liked:

-how the boys are looking up at board on back cover, as it looks like they're reading the track list

-how the heads over lap with the box is a cool feature

-they also liked how the logo was where the CD was

-the inside left photo of the boys on the floor is great because it shows their personalities and a close up of what they really look like (perfect for our target audience of teenage girls)

-the font of the logo on the front really complemented the genre and their star image

What should be added/changed:
-the colour and font for the track list should be different so it's easier to read

-maybe a different colour box to make it look a bit more clean and bright

-time stamps need to be smaller and in brackets so it doesn't look like the numbers are a part of the song

-the numbers of songs could be different colours

-bar code should be on bottom right

-move the producer line so it can be seen better and isn't covered

-change the colour of the logo to match the front cover to the muted yellow for consistency

The editing (Gabi):

What we liked:
-matches the energy really well, doesn't stay on the same scene too long but isn't too chaotic
-easy to follow
-good compositions and variety of different shots
-somehow edited the drum logo because there is a bit of paper that wasn't trimmed off
-changes to the second at a good time, not too early/not too late
-the drum fill worked really well
-the girls dancing in front of the projections coming in later than last time is better because then not all the shots are used too quickly and it stays interesting

What could be changed/added:
-opening scene was a bit too long
-get rid of bars in some shots
-more shots need to be grouped together: like the closeup of the guitar and then the face of the guitar player so the audience can start to recognise who plays what
-check that the drummer is playing the same as what's in the song and doesn't finish to late/early

Social media (Chloe)

What we liked:
-loved how she stuck to the colour scheme because aesthetics are quite an important element for our band
-the profile being the logo works really well with our genre
-the captions for the post are really engaging with the audience and builds excitement

-the meet the band feature is a great way to get to know the members, as it's a campaign for a new artist

What could be changed/added:
-add some more videos that aren't just behind the scenes
-maybe a few personal video messages from the band to connect them to their audience too
-add a bit more about the band in the bio: so people looking at the account know what they're looking at and what the bands all about
-or say about how theres an upcoming album, as social media is the best way to promote the music
-link the website in the bio so it's easy for fans/visitors to find

The website (Chloe)

Here is a video the website:

What we liked:
-how the extra writing and social media icons are white as it looks clean and contrasts/stand out against the colours of the banner and background image
-the gallery looked really cool and showed behind the scenes and how the band acts more candidly
-all the social medias link to the different apps

What could be changed/added:
-make the different pages bigger so they're easy to see and more people would click on them
-add the music video to the homepage
-change the 'buy music' to store or shop to make it look more professional and like theres more to buy
-she could design some merchandise like jumpers or mugs or phone cases

Editing the photos

 Editing the photos

Next on the list, was to edit the photos. This included editing the colours, warmth and highlights etc, and fixing anything that needed fixing.

First i used Lightroom, to change the exposure, saturation, and other levels.

I went through and chose which photos i liked, which took a little while because it was important to find the perfect ones.

After chosing the photos, i went through and spent time editing each one- i didn't make too many drastic changes, but mostly just lighting and colours.

then i made sure that the photos were the right dimensions, and i exported them to my phone. I used the app Snapseed to start adding more warmth, and to play around with the vintage filters and grain.

These were the effects i used the most:

I didn't want the photos to be too faded or the effects to be too intense, so i made sure to get a good balance on the style structure and grain

There is still a lot more i need to add, but overall, it's looking like its going in the right direction, and i am already very excited about the final result.

The unedited photos

 The photos from the shoot

Here are the unedited photos for the shoot that i chose. I'm so pleased because they came out exactly how i wanted. I think they already show the genre, vibe and aesthetic of the band already, and will look even better with the text and everything else i need to add.

behind the scenes of the photoshoot

Behind the scenes of the photoshoot

I met with my photographer friend Sophie, and we bought the band to this clearing in the woods where there were lots of leaves, like the Rubber Soul photoshoot. I think putting the band in nature makes them seem more like 'real people' rather than super professional in a studio. This way it relate them more to their target audience.

We shot for the front cover first, and made sure to try different facial expressions and distances.

Then, we shot the back cover, as it was pretty much the same positions just turned around. We played around a little with where they were looking; starting with just straight forward, and then with them looking up as if they were looking at the track list, which i quite liked.

Finally, we shot the more challenging photos, which was the ones on the floor, with the band looking up at the camera. It was a little hard to make it look natural, and took a few attempts, but i'm really happy with how they turned out, and i think they really push the artwork to looking really 60s boyband-esque.

How i think it went:

Sophie, the band and i had so much fun with the shoot, as the photos were quite simple and i'd planned it all out before. I think the costumes looked great together and with the setting, and the band were so easy to work with (they even showed their commitment by laying down on the slightly damp leaves).

Draft campaign post 1

 Draft campaign post 1

In todays lesson, my group got together to show our progress with each of our products, and give and receive feedback, so we could improve our designs.

The Digipak (me)

I didn't have time to do the shoot before this meeting, but i did have the finished sketches done so my group could see the idea and roughly how it would look.

The feedback

-What works/what they liked:
-They both really liked the photos, and how the boys are arranged in each image. It shows how they are all equal in the band, but also suggests, especially in the first one, who the lead singer is.
-The font choice was also enjoyed, as it fits well with the genre, and keeps it exciting
-Using the logo for the Inside right cover worked well too, as it bought in another feature/symbol of the band

-What needs to change/be added

-Gabi suggested that the title and name of band might look better in a different colour, aswell as the logo on the inside
-it was also bought up that i need to think about which font i should use on the back cover for the track list
-(perhaps changing the numbers to different colours)
-also to move the barcode to the bottom as thats where it should be
-also, as there will be grain/a vintage filter on the images, it might not look as vibrant so i need to take that the colour pallet/saturation into consideration

The editing (Gabi)

The feedback i gave:

What i liked:
-i really like the energy of the video, and i think it keeps up well with the tempo, and therefore the genre
-i also like the transitions and how in the different shots, the band is swapping places

-i also really like the scene where the dancers come in, and how it flows in nicely with the rest of the video

What could be added/changed:
-one thing i noticed was during Zac's guitar solo, there was a bit of wall showing that didn't have projections on, and it would look cleaner/more professional if it was zoomed in a tad to remove that wall.

-I also thought that the projections should be introduced with the band, rather than the first feature of them being of the dancers

-and although this won't be done until the end of the editing process, i reminded Gabi about adding a vintage filter or grain, just to fully commit the video to the retro theme and aesthetic, and tie it all together.

The website and social media (Chloe)

What i liked
-I think she chose a really great picture for the background, as it shows all the members clearly, and shows who the lead singer is, as 'Ronnie' is in the centre.
-the aesthetic looks great and the colour scheme matches the genre and the 60s vibe
-i also love how she put the logo in the top left corner. The black and white stands out, and most classic rock websites had their logo or symbol on the home page

What could be added/changed

-this is early stages in the website design, so there aren't all the elements added yet, but adding the music video to the front, and maybe a photo gallery would be good, to show their music and a bit more of what the band is like and their personalities.
-she could also make the writing on the right that leads to different pages bigger and maybe change the font.
-also add in the links to the other social media.

What i liked
-i really love how she kept to the colour scheme of the band, with the warm tones (oranges, browns etc...)
-also this mix of videos and photos keeps it exciting
-the 'meet the band' feature is a great idea especially since our campaign is of a new artist
-the behind the scenes of the music video creates excitement around the video

What could be added/changed
-Chloe could add some instagram highlights, such as behind the scenes photos, or a short QandA with the band members
-a countdown feature for the album release would be a great way to keep fans excited and remind them about the upcoming new music

-maybe a few more posts of digital artwork, to add a bit of variety of the kind of posts
-she could also post the logo, but maybe in different colours, to remind the fans of their style and symbols that correlate with the band
