My first Digipak design

My first Digipak design

This is my finished Digipak design:

Front cover

For the front cover, i wanted to make it very clear what the genre was. As this was their first album, i made sure that the name of the band was was very clear and visible. I made it a warm orange colour with a darker orange boarder, in all capitals, so the eye is drawn immediately to the name. Underneath i put the title, also in capitals, and a contrasting boarder, so it still stands out.

The band is also all looking directly at the camera, bringing a more personal or intimate atmosphere, and  so the audience/fans can start to recognise the members and identify them. Their expressions are quite serious but not to closed off, which helps with their star image, and becoming well known.

I kept the colour scheme quite consistent, with warm and neutral tones. This works well with the music of the 60s as it matches the aesthetic very well. The mix of patterned shirts and block colours also bring both styles together nicely.

Inside left

I focused on the positioning of the band here, they are  all quite relaxed and casual, and i wanted to help show who was who in the band. The lead singer is in the centre and a bit more forward, and the lead guitarist is in a similar pose and near the front. The drummer is angled slightly away and the rhythm guitarist is at the back, looking to the side.

This starts to create an idea of who's who in the band which they would make sure to establish in the 60s, especially when the audience don't have the means to look it up.

Inside right

I kept the inside right simple, as the CD would be covering it anyway. I chose a classic 60s pattern, again with the warm tones such as the browns and oranges that i bought in before. This again adds to the aesthetic and hints towards the classic rock genre, as these sorts of patterns were very commonly used with artwork of the time.

Back cover

For the back cover, i chose a photo of them all walking away because i think it concludes the digipak nicely. The lead singer is also on the left and a little further away from the rest of the band, allowing him to stand out more.

I chose the same font as the front to tie it all together, and create some consistency with the titles and colours.

Conclusion

In conclusion, i wanted to style this shoot and digipak in a way that it was very clear what the genre is, and presented my band as organic and authentic to the 60s style. To do this, it was important to use multiple images of the band themselves, making sure to show their faces clearly, and the atmosphere.
